Five Years of Aichi Synchrotron Radiation Center
It is already five years since the opening of the Aichi Synchrotron Radiation Center (AichiSR) on March 26, 2013. The status of AichiSR for the last five years is reviewed.
・The used beam-time in 2017 was 8397 h, 7785 h in 2016, 7173 h in 2015, 5671 h in 2014. and 4244 h in 2013. The beam-time includes measurement acting service that started in 2014. The increasing rate is much higher than expected. As the beam-lines used at 100% are increasing, the used beam-time is coming to the saturation.
・Beam-time used by companies (including collaboration) is 55% in 2017, and both academic users and the beam-time used by them are rapidly increasing. It was 12 universities in 2013 and 32 in 2017.
・The user (in terms of organizations) of Aichi SR are about 100; half of them is repeater and the rest half is new user. We have been cultivating and spreading the foot of synchrotron uses.
・The average of coefficient of utilization (used beam-time/available beam-time) was 81% in 2017. The decrease of the rate is mostly due to the increase of the available beam-time (the facility is becoming more stable).
・A new hard X-ray XAFS beam-line (BL11S2) was opened for use in January 2017. This solved the overflow problem of the hard X-ray XAFS use; the available time became two-fold.
・The double-crystal spectrometer was totally exchanged by a Kohzu spectrometer originally designed for a low vacuum but we advised to make it for an ultra-high vacuum compatible. This made the soft X-ray beam-line much stable in energy-resolution and quickly changeable of three double-crystal sets.
・We arranged the measurement acting service for mail-in (or carry-in) samples from abroad. It is very quick and flexible in terms of proposal-to-return process.
We are continuously up-grading our facilities and making us more and more user-friendly.
